The Night before Christmas

Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house
Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse.
The stockings were hung by the chimney with care,
In hopes that St Nicholas soon would be there.

The children were nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of sugar-plums danced in their heads.
And mamma in her ‘kerchief, and I in my cap,
Had just settled our brains for a long winter’s nap.

When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter,
I sprang from the bed to see what was the matter.
Away to the window I flew like a flash,
Tore open the shutters and threw up the sash.

The moon on the breast of the new-fallen snow
Gave the lustre of mid-day to objects below.
When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But a miniature sleigh, and eight tinny reindeer.

With a little old driver, so lively and quick,
I knew in a moment it must be St Nick.
More rapid than eagles his coursers they came,
And he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name!

"Now Dasher! now, Dancer! now, Prancer and Vixen!
On, Comet! On, Cupid! on, on Donner and Blitzen!
To the top of the porch! to the top of the wall!
Now dash away! Dash away! Dash away all!"

As dry leaves that before the wild hurricane fly,
When they meet with an obstacle, mount to the sky.
So up to the house-top the coursers they flew,
With the sleigh full of Toys, and St Nicholas too.

And then, in a twinkling, I heard on the roof
The prancing and pawing of each little hoof.
As I drew in my head, and was turning around,
Down the chimney St Nicholas came with a bound.

He was dressed all in fur, from his head to his foot,
And his clothes were all tarnished with ashes and soot.
A bundle of Toys he had flung on his back,
And he looked like a peddler, just opening his pack.

His eyes-how they twinkled! his dimples how merry!
His cheeks were like roses, his nose like a cherry!
His droll little mouth was drawn up like a bow,
And the beard of his chin was as white as the snow.

The stump of a pipe he held tight in his teeth,
And the smoke it encircled his head like a wreath.
He had a broad face and a little round belly,
That shook when he laughed, like a bowlful of jelly!

He was chubby and plump, a right jolly old elf,
And I laughed when I saw him, in spite of myself!
A wink of his eye and a twist of his head,
Soon gave me to know I had nothing to dread.

He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work,
And filled all the stockings, then turned with a jerk.
And laying his finger aside of his nose,
And giving a nod, up the chimney he rose!

He sprang to his sleigh, to his team gave a whistle,
And away they all flew like the down of a thistle.
But I heard him exclaim, ‘ere he drove out of sight,
"Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good-night!"

Why is Christmas celebrated 25 December

Why do we celebrate Christmas on 25 December, no-one is really sure why but here are a few ideas why

  • Mary being told she would have a special child Jesus on March 25th (This is called the Annunciation) - and it's still celebrated today on the 25th March. Nine months after the 25th March is the 25th December.

  • December 25th might have also been chosen because the Winter Solstice and the ancient pagan Roman midwinter festivals called 'Saturnalia' and 'Dies Natalis Solis Invicti' which took place in December around this date .

  • As Jesus was a Jew the Jewish festival of lights Hanukkah which starts on the 25th of Kislev (the month in the Jewish calendar that occurs at about the same time as December).

Which idea do you think is right cause i cant make up my mind

Carols by Candlelight

Yesterday was a great day as last night went to Carols by Candlelight.

Where i do volunteer work they arranged a few months ago to try to start a new tradition around where i live by having the carols, I made a flyer around a month ago to advertise it was on so people knew where to go.

My job for the night, to take photo's of the people the activities and just to see the smiles on peoples faces.

The day started with an Aboriginal man called Uncle Steve who did an welcome to the land as the suburb was where the Darug, Tharawal and Gandangara tribes lived in the 1700's.

From there we had people from Salvation Army Band singing, a local choir which is run from where i do my volunteer work and some other people singing.

A barbecue was also held which in the area is a good thing as there is a population of people with mental health issues or on a low income.

We made sure the children would be having fun as well with a person make animals out of balloons and children being able to get their faces painted.

There was a showbag which had brochures of what is around the area and the smallest battery operated candle i had ever seen, it was maybe 7 cm tall ,there where also glow sticks which where mainly for the children which we made into bracelets for them.

After that Santa came and handed all the children presents which consisted of a colouring book, pencils and a huge bubble blowing toys. It was so cool to see the smiling faces when Santa showed up makes it feel all magical again like when i was a child. Had two people waiting for the presents who knew who the man in the Santa suit was but in front of them was a small child so im saying sure that is Santa and they where saying no no its this other man, so i said well if you dont believe in Santa why are you lined up to get presents cause only Santa hands out presents, they giggled and said yeah it is Santa isint it lol

I grabbed one of the bubble blowing toys so i can make bubbles and act like a child around my house lol

I do have pictures but ive been lazy and havent added them to my computer yet.

So easy to find people

I live in a Unit and a few times i have received mail for a person who lives i guess in a house, but as the number is the same street number as mine the postman puts it in my letter box.

I opened what was posted this time as it looked like a Christmas Card and thought that maybe it would have an return address inside, which of course there wasent.

I got onto the computer and went to our local white pages and typed in the name on the envelope as well as my street and there it was i had found where this person lived.

Taking the card to the persons address I found it was an old lady and told her how maybe she should contact this person who sent the card so she dosent miss out on anything, i apologised that i had opened the card and she was all thats ok and thanked me for giving her the card.

But wow so easy to find people these days eeek scary

This had me laughing and shaking my head

I read this and the first thing that came to my mind was "this guy loves himself to much" laughing as i was reading this i thought others might like to see how some people go overboard when they see something that wasn't there.

It seems an Investment banker called Mike went on one date with Lauren - a date she described as "horrific" - and was so put out that she did not call him back that he tracked down her email address.

According to Mike, Lauren played with her hair and made eye contact during the date before telling him at the end of the night: "It was nice to meet you".

Lauren, it seems took a different view.

She posted the email on website Reddit, and gave a brief back story which said: "Friend couldn't make it to philharmonic at last minute so I went alone, met this guy, went on ONE, HORRIFIC date. Then got this..."

READ MIKE'S EMAIL TO LAUREN

Hi Lauren,

I'm disappointed in you. I'm disappointed that I haven't gotten a response to my voicemail and text messages.

FYI, I suggest that you keep in mind that emails sound more impersonal, harsher, and are easier to misinterpret than in-person or phone communication. After all, people can't see someone's body language or tone of voice in an email. I'm not trying to be harsh, patronizing, or insulting in this email. I'm honest and direct by nature, and I'm going to be that way in this email. By the way, I did a Google search, so that's how I came across your email.

I assume that you no longer want to go out with me. (If you do want to go out with me, then you should let me know.) I suggest that you make a sincere apology to me for giving me mixed signals. I feel led on by you.

Things that happened during our date include, but are not limited to, the following:- You played with your hair a lot. A woman playing with her hair is a common sign of flirtation. You can even do a Google search on it. When a woman plays with her hair, she is preening. I've never had a date where a woman played with her hair as much as you did. In addition, it didn't look like you were playing with your hair out of nervousness.

- We had lots of eye contact during our date. On a per-minute basis, I've never had as much eye contact during a date as I did with you.

- You said, 'It was nice to meet you' at the end of our date. A woman could say this statement as a way to show that she isn't interested in seeing a man again or she could mean what she said-that it was nice to meet you. The statement, by itself, is inconclusive.

- We had a nice conversation over dinner. I don't think I'm being delusional in saying this statement.

In my opinion, leading someone on (i.e., giving mixed signals) is impolite and immature. It's bad to do that.

Normally, I would not be asking for information if a woman and I don't go out again after a first date. However, in our case, I'm curious because I think our date went well and that there is a lot of potential for a serious relationship. Of course, it's difficult to predict what would happen, but I think there is a lot of potential for a serious relationship developing between us one day (or least there was before your non-response to my voicemail and text messages).

I think we should go out on a second date. In my opinion, our first date was good enough to lead to a second date.

Why am I writing you? Well, hopefully, we will go out again. Even if we don't, I gain utility from expressing my thoughts to you. In addition, even if you don't want to go out again, I would like to get feedback as to why you wouldn't want to go again. Normally, I wouldn't ask a woman for this type of feedback after a first date, but this is an exception given I think we have a lot of potential.

If you don't want to go again, then apparently you didn't think our first date was good enough to lead to a second date. Dating or a relationship is not a Hollywood movie. It's good to keep that in mind. In general, I thought the date went well and was expecting that we would go out on a second date.

If you're not interested in going out again, then I would have preferred if you hadn't given those mixed signals. I feel led on. We have a number of things in common. I'll name a few things: First, we've both very intelligent. Second, we both like classical music so much that we go to classical music performances by ourselves. In fact, the number one interest that I would want to have in common with a woman with whom I'm in a relationship is a liking of classical music. I wouldn't be seriously involved with a woman if she didn't like classical music. You said that you're planning to go the NY Philharmonic more often in the future. As I said, I go to the NY Philharmonic often. You're very busy. It would be very convenient for you to date me because we have the same interests. We already go to classical music performances by ourselves. If we go to classical music performances together, it wouldn't take any significant additional time on your part.

According to the internet, you're 33 or 32, so, at least from my point of view, we're a good match in terms of age. I could name more things that we have in common, but I'll stop here. I don't understand why you apparently don't want to go out with me again. We have numerous things in common. I assume that you find me physically attractive. If you didn't find me physically attractive, then it would have been irrational for you to go out with me in the first place. After all, our first date was not a blind date.

You already knew what I looked like before our date. Perhaps, you're unimpressed that I manage my family's investments and my own investments. Perhaps, you don't think I have a 'real' job. Well, I've done very well as an investment manager. I've made my parents several millions of dollars. That's real money. That's not monopoly money. In my opinion, if I make real money, it's a real job. Donald Trump's children work for his company. Do they have 'real' jobs? I think so. George Soros' sons help manage their family investments. Do they have 'real' jobs? I think so.

In addition, I'm both a right-brain and left-brain man, given that I'm both an investment manager and a philosopher/writer. That's a unique characteristic; most people aren't like that. I've never been as disappointed and sad about having difficulty about getting a second date as I am with you. I've gone out with a lot of women in my life. (FYI, I'm not a serial dater. Sometimes, I've only gone out with a woman for one date.) People don't grow on trees. I hope you appreciate the potential we have.

Am I sensitive person? Sure, I am. I think it's better to be sensitive than to be insensitive. There are too many impolite, insensitive people in the world.

I suggest that we continue to go out and see what happens. Needless to say, I find you less appealing now (given that you haven't returned my messages) than I did at our first date. However, I would be willing to go out with you again. I'm open minded and flexible and am willing to give you the benefit of the doubt. I wish you would give me the benefit of the doubt too.

If you don't want to go out again, in my opinion, you would be making a big mistake, perhaps one of the biggest mistakes in your life. If you don't want to go out again, then you should have called to tell me so. Even sending a text message would have been better than nothing. In my opinion, not responding to my messages is impolite, immature, passive aggressive, and cowardly. I spent time, effort, and money meeting you for dinner. Getting back to me in response to my messages would have been a reasonable thing for you to do. In addition, you arrived about 30 minutes late for our date. I'm sure you wouldn't like it if a man showed up thirty minutes late for a first date with you.

If you're concerned that you will hurt my feelings by providing specific information about why you don't want to go with me again, well, my feelings are already hurt. I'm sad and disappointed about this situation. If you give information, at least I can understand the situation better. I might even learn something that is beneficial.

If you don't want to go out again, that I request that you call me and make a sincere apology for leading me on (i.e., giving me mixed signals). In my opinion, you shouldn't act that way toward a man and then not go out with him again. It's bad to play with your hair so much and make so much eye contact if you're not interested in going out with me again. I have tried to write this email well, but it's not perfect. Again, I'm not trying to be harsh, insulting, patronizing, etc. I'm disappointed, sad, etc.

I would like to talk to you on the phone. I hope you will call me back at xxx-xxx-xxxx (if it's inconvenient for you to talk on the phone when you read this email, you can let me know via email that you are willing to talk on the phone and I'll call you). If you get my voicemail, you can a leave a message and I can call you back. Even if you don't want to go out again, I would appreciate it if you give me the courtesy of calling me and talking to me. Yes, you might say things that hurt me, but my feelings are already hurt.

Sending me an email response (instead of talking on the phone) would better than no response at all, but I think it would be better to talk on the phone. Email communication has too much potential for misinterpretation, etc.

Best, Mike

Emotional Intelligence

Ive had friends ask me what ive thought of people cause they felt a little strange about the person and usually i can pick something up and say oh this person is this way and it has been true, little did i know that it means i have something called Motional Intelligence

What Emotional Intelligence is, is the ability to perceive, control and evaluate emotions.

Their are four branches of Emotional Intelligence:

  1. Perceiving Emotions: The first step in understanding emotions is to accurately perceive them. In many cases, this might involve understanding nonverbal signals such as body language and facial expressions.

  2. Reasoning With Emotions: The next step involves using emotions to promote thinking and cognitive activity. Emotions help prioritize what we pay attention and react to; we respond emotionally to things that garner our attention.

  3. Understanding Emotions: The emotions that we perceive can carry a wide variety of meanings. If someone is expressing angry emotions, the observer must interpret the cause of their anger and what it might mean. For example, if your boss is acting angry, it might mean that he is dissatisfied with your work; or it could be because he got a speeding ticket on his way to work that morning or that he's been fighting with his wife.

  4. Managing Emotions: The ability to manage emotions effectively is a key part of emotional intelligence. Regulating emotions, responding appropriately and responding to the emotions of others are all important aspect of emotional management.

There is a test you can do which of course i did and this is what it said about me

Your results indicate an above average score on emotional intelligence.

What Does Your Score Mean?
People with a better than average score on emotional intelligence tend to be good at interpreting, understanding, and acting upon emotions. They are usually quite good at dealing with social or emotional conflicts, expressing their feelings, and dealing with emotional situations.
Link
You can do the test here if you would like to see what your Emotional Intelligence is.

Why dogs have their heads out of moving Cars

Everytime i take a dog for a ride in my car they always want too stick their heads of the car windows.

I'm thinking well maybe the dog likes to feel the wind of their face, a bit like a person riding a bike with the wind on their face on a warm day it feels nice right?

Well it seems the reason i thought is wrong.

Dogs like to put their heads out of moving cars cause of all the smells that are around, studies have shown that a dog's nose could be 1,000 to 2,000 times more acute than a humans.
They're pretty much in ecstasy when they're riding in the car and the wind is pushing all these odours in their nose," said Dave Burke, a veterinarian at Grand Traverse Veterinary Hospital. "They can discern things we're totally unaware of.

So there you go, why Dogs like to have their head out of moving cars.

Variation of Spaghetti and Meatballs

Im not really that big on tomato and a little bored with eating the same meat sauce that is made with tomato so i made my own up.

What i did was get a mixture of vegetables baked them after spraying with oil, the vegetables i used this time was
  • mushroom
  • carrot
  • zucchini
  • celery
  • onion
  • capsicum

Once the vegetables where cooked in the oven i blended them down adding some herbs and parmesan cheese, most of the items i used had been already in my house

Next i made my meatballs, and well im not really that big on the taste of meat either, years ago i learnt a trick which made the Meatballs really yummy and moist.

I use a can of baked beans

Sure it may sound really funny but once to blend them down they turn into a paste and in the meatballs i dont think you can really work out what the taste is.

Next i baked the meatballs and mixed them with the pasta and sauce i had made.

Turned out pretty good i think

White Ribbon Day

Today is White Ribbon Day a day, White Ribbon Campaign started in Canada and became an annual awareness-raising event held between 25 November and 6 December.

The day was started as a man on the afternoon of 6 December 1989, walked into the Ecole Polytechnique University in Montreal and massacred 14 of his female classmates. His actions traumatised a nation and brought the issue of violence against women to the forefront of our collective consciousness.

In 1999, the United Nations General Assembly declared 25 November as the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, with a white ribbon as its iconic symbol.

White Ribbon began in Australia in 2003 as part of UNIFEM (now UN Women).

Today i went to an event that looked at all the different facets that can cause men to be violent to women from drinking, drugs, gambling, being angry and other reasons, we had a barbecue, local choir, local musician, balloons for children, how it isint the womens fault for the violence, where to look for help if violence is around and things like that. Was a pity it was raining but luckily we where able to have the event inside.

Scamers

Received in the mail today a letter stating i have some money sitting in a bank account, i do know i have some money sitting in a bank account and when i get the chance to get it i will.

First of what happens in Australia is that there is a site that you can check to see if there is any money you have forgotten about, it is run by A.S.I.C

What i found funny about the letter is that it starts of with this person is a 68 year old pensioner trying to obtain some extra money
  • If you are on a pension to make extra money why are you posting out mail which will cost you money

LinkIt goes on further that i dont need to give his name to ASIC, and that is just a note to tell me the money is there.

  • Why is it illegal what you are doing sending me this letter?

Of course i then looked to see what they are going to charge me to get my money, as previously i had received letters like this and they had taken $200.00.

He has written that if i successfully recover the money then maybe i could show my gratitude by sending him a small payment, a gift voucher or money order

  • So he wants money, if i dont which i wont isint he out of money so how is he making money?

Sounds quite silly to me, maybe he will get a gullible person but who knows?

Speaking my mind

When I'm talking to people on the internet i often hide part of myself as I don't think people really want to know everything and some of what i know.

I have been chatting to a few people for awhile now who of course use the line "Be Yourself" you don't need to hide anything, i do warn people and say well what i know may not be to your liking and I'm not exactly sure you want me to be myself. But they so no go for it.

So of course i fall for that line after awhile and let my full self start to emerge.

Bad idea, as most of the time when I do people seem to be shocked with how most things don't bother me, like you can tell me really rude stuff and most of the time I just don't care, it just doesn't bother me and I'm very blasé about it.

Why I'm like this is at one stage I was doing a certain job (which I wont say) i heard and saw quite alot of stuff and now it takes loads for me to be shocked.

My question is why do people say to you "Be Yourself" when they seem to have trouble with it.

Fire

To me fire is really interesting to watch it seems to come from nothing to produce different colours from different types of materials used. Im not exactly sure how the flame part is made reading up on it i thought i would share it

The first part i wanted to know about was how is the flame made well this is how it is made:

The flame is the visible portion of any fire and consists of glowing hot gases- what happens is the carbon atoms rise (as well as atoms of other material) emit light. This "heat produces light" effect is called incandescence, and it is the same kind of thing that creates light in a light bulb. It is what causes the visible flame.

For fire to work it needs three things heat, fuel, and oxygen.

On Earth, gravity determines how the flame burns. All the hot gases in the flame are much hotter (and less dense) than the surrounding air, so they move upward toward lower pressure. This is why fire typically spreads upward, and it's also why flames are always "pointed" at the top.

The flames also come in different colours depending on where it is typically, the hottest part of a flame -- the base -- glows blue, and the cooler parts at the top glow orange or yellow. In addition to emitting light, the rising carbon particles may collect on surrounding surfaces as soot.

To get smoke some of the decomposed material is released as volatile gases. Smoke is compounds of hydrogen, carbon and oxygen.

Stupid Males

What is this with males who are up to the age of 35.

Almost every male up to the age of 35-40 i go to speak to on Facebook or other chat programs seems to think as i am speaking to them that i want to talk about sex or show my body to them. I see lingerie shots and sure if your comfortable doing that ok but are you doing it cause you feel you have to to get attention or are you doing it cause you want too?

I grew up with you dont talk about such things or show your body to someone until you have got to know them, but these days it is seen as "the norm" that a female will show her body to any male over the computer and if you dont there is something wrong with you or so i am told by some of the males i try to have a conversation with.

If i try to have a chat with a male within 5 minutes i am getting told the size of the guys penis, asked what i like to do in bed what size parts of my body are and other things, like it is so important to know such thing to have a chat,

To me i think the guy is trying to do something like phonesex but is to damn cheap to even think of ringing one or think they are not that type of guy, well im sorry to say you are that type of guy, you are someone who has to chat to me that way cause they dont have a brain to talk about anything else

Give me a guy with brains who knows how to at least talk to me first and get to know me before telling me what they have between their legs cause your brain dosent sit there even if you sometimes think it does

Do people these days not have any respect for their selves?

Yes im having a rant cause im getting so pissed of with males who dont know how to talk to a female properly

Ear Wax

Ear wax to me can be really annoying i have one ear that produces more than the other, i also had an operation on my left ear which has made the ear not sit as it should which means the wax builds up and makes my each damn itchy, so of course i wanted to find why we have ear eax. I knew we have wax to protect our ears from dust and such but that is as far as it went. There are two types of ear wax
  • the wet type which is dominant and produced mainly by black and white people
  • the dry type which is recessive produced by Asians and Native Americans
The thought is with the cerumen type being different has been tracked to a single base change
In addition to affecting cerumen type, this mutation also reduces sweat production. The researchers
conjecture that the reduction in sweat was beneficial to the ancestors of East Asians and Native
Americans who are thought to have lived in cold climates.

There are a few components of earwax the primary ones being shed of layers of skin, with
60% of the earwax consisting of keratin, 12–20% saturated and unsaturated long-chain fatty
acids, alcohols, squalene and 6–9% cholesterol
.

The ear has its own way of cleaning which occurs as a result of the "conveyor belt" process of tissue migration, aided by jaw movement. Cells formed in the centre of the eardrum migrate outwards from a part of your ear called umbo (at a rate comparable to that of fingernail growth) to the walls of the ear canal, and move towards the entrance of the ear canal. The cerumen in the canal is also carried outwards, taking with it any dirt, dust, and particulate matter that may have gathered in the canal. Jaw movement assists this process by dislodging debris attached to the walls of the ear canal, increasing the likelihood of its expulsion.

Emotes you can use on Facebook

Feels so strange after many years of emotions being done for us and just having to click a button but with Facebook as im sure you all know you have to do them the old way and its a pain having to remember how to do them.

Im adding them to my Blog so when i need to find them again they will be sitting here easy to find and maybe others will find this handy as well.

Vegemite Song

The Vegemite Song was first sung in 1954 below are the words and video of the song being sung

"We're happy little Vegemites
As bright as bright can be.
We all enjoy our Vegemite
For breakfast, lunch and tea.
Our Mummies say we're growing stronger every single week
Because we love our Vegemite.
We all adore our Vegemite.
IT PUTS A ROSE IN EVERY CHEEK!
We're growing stronger every week."

Bad times for a few weeks

Near the start of October is not a good time for me, first today 4 October is my dads birthday he would have been 90 years old he died around 20 years ago.

Next is my mums birthday which is on 10 October she would have been 84, my mum passed away 7 years ago a few days after her birthday.

I lived with my mum till she passed away as none of my other brothers and sisters would spend much time with her so it was a little hard when she passed away as well as being told i better find a place to live or i would be made to move anyhow even placed into a refuge
I'm sure others have had the same done to them and its not a nice place to be at times.

With October starting along come some weird sometimes scary dreams of being chased being attacked all wonderful things. I do suffer from depression and am on anti depressants taking them stops me from having the dreams of waking up not knowing where i am and hitting my head against a wall. Oh my life sounds like fun hey.

There is one thing though that keeps me going and that is that I'm sure there is someone worse off them i am and would love to have my life even if i think it sucks

Neck Pain (Torticollis)

Ever woke up with a sharp pain in one side of your neck well that's how i woke up yesterday it was really painful to move my head around or lift my arm to do anything

I found out that or course it is a thing that happens to quite alot of people, there are 3 ways that it happens
  1. Sleeping with the window open
  2. Sleeping in an awkward position
  3. History of an unusual activity the day before
What happens is that one or more of the small joints along the back side of the neck called “facet joints” become jammed or locked. The small supportive muscles of the neck that are usually controlled by unconscious reflexes (the muscles you don’t even know you have until you have this condition) contract and hold the joint in a protective manner so as to avoid what it “thinks” is further damage to the joint.

I'm the type of person who doesn't like to take medication if I don't need too so i thought i would look on the net to see what I could do to help alleviate the pain and found some great ideas to help with today waking up with almost all the pain gone

There are a few exercises you can do, the ones I did was a chin tuck exercise what you do is sit or stand in front of a mirror. Looking straight ahead, tuck your chin into your neck (there are those gorgeous double chins again) and push backwards, stretching the back of your neck. To make this stretch stronger, you can put both hands on your chin and push back. Don't drop your head - by looking in the mirror, it helps you hold the right posture.

Follow this link to find out other exercises you can do

Pancakes

I love eating Pancakes and every recipe i have they taste ok but i finally found one that turns out great.

The recipe states to use bananas but as bananas are a little expensive to buy and as i love berries i decided to add berries to mine and the recipe still works out great

Below is the recipe that i use

  • 2 large bananas
  • 1 1/2 cups wholemeal self-raising flour
  • 1 1/2 cups buttermilk
  • 2 eggs, lightly beaten
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • Olive oil cooking spray

  1. Mash 1 banana in a bowl (see note). Place flour in a bowl. Make a well in the centre. Combine buttermilk, eggs, honey and mashed banana in a jug. Pour into well. Whisk until smooth. Stand for 10 minutes.

  2. Spray a large, non-stick frying pan with oil. Heat over medium heat. Spoon 1/4 cup batter into pan. Cook for 2 to 3 minutes or until bubbles appear on the surface. Turn. Cook for 1 to 2 minutes or until golden and cooked through. Transfer to a plate. Cover to keep warm. Repeat with remaining batter to make 12 pancakes.

Notes

You'll need 1/2 cup mashed banana.

I use 1/2 - 3/4 cup mixed berries

Where does Water come from

At times when it hasent rained for awhile people are told to go slow with the amount of water that is being used, but other than rain where does water come from or even why does it rain in the first place

Well i thought i would tackle the where does water come from

Simple

Water comes from water

When the water in the lakes and oceans is evaporated by the heat of the sun and forms a vapour that joins together to form clouds. When the temperature is warm enough, the vapour condenses into drops of water which is what rain is made out of.

The rain falls onto the earth-onto land as well as back into oceans, lakes and rivers. From the water bodies it evaporates and the cycle starts all over. The water that is found on the earth is used by plants and often people as the water will eventually find its way to the water table.

More Technical

Water is a molecule which contains one oxygen and two hydrogen atoms connected by covalent bonds.

Water comes in different forms, its a liquid at ambient conditions, its solid state its ice, and gaseous state (water vapour or steam). Water also exists in a liquid crystal state near hydrophilic surfaces.

So now we know that some other interesting information

Water covers 70.9% of the Earth's surface. On Earth, it is found mostly in oceans and other large water bodies,

1.6% of water below ground in aquifers and 0.001% in the air as vapour

clouds (formed of solid and liquid water particles suspended in air), and precipitation.

Oceans hold 97% of surface water,

Glaciers and polar ice caps 2.4%, and other land surface water such as rivers,

Lakes and ponds 0.6%.

A very small amount of the Earth's water is contained within biological bodies and manufactured products.

So what happens is that water on Earth moves continually through a cycle of evaporation or transpiration , precipitation, and run off, usually reaching the sea.

The picture below is from a 1925 Popular Science Monthly Magazine

The idea came from Mr Corbet, his idea was How you may live and travel in the 1950's.

His suggestion was that we would live on four levels,
  • the top level for pedestrians the next level for slow moving motor traffic
  • the next fast moving motor traffic
  • the lowest for electric trains.
  • There would be great blocks of terraced skyscrapers half a mile high which would house offices schools homes and playground on successive levels while the roofs would be air craft landing fields, according to the architects plan
All this thought back in 1925 when you think of it some of what he suggested is what happens now, we have underground trains and skyscrapers with people making their own gardens.

Another side to Rugby World Cup

When i read this i cracked up the next Rugby World Cup is on which is between 9 September - 23 October 2011 in New Zealand

While its on there is going to be another business which is going to be kept pretty busy

What sort of business you may ask well Brothels.

Brennan, a dominatrix who runs a bondage brothel in Wellington, has said she already has received pre-bookings from South Africa, England, Ireland and Canada.

It seems New Zealand introduced some of the world's most liberal prostitution laws eight years ago, when sex work was decriminalised, allowing brothels and street workers to operate legally.

New Zealand Prostitutes' Collective coordinator Catherine Healy said many visitors during the September 9-October 23 tournament would be surprised at how openly the industry operates.

"Paying for sex in this country isn't against the law," she said.

"There isn't that whole subterfuge where people say it's a massage parlour, an escort agency, or we're just talking.

She said there were about 3,500 prostitutes working in New Zealand and all the signs were that business would be brisk during the World Cup.

They've organised to have condom supplies doubled throughout the period, which took a bit of work with the condom companies. The brothels are doubling up on their orders and getting ready... in the warehouse they're stacked from the floor to the ceiling."

What have i been doing

I know what i want to write about on here but i am researching it before i write it so i know what im writing about.

Other reasons i havent written is that it is time for the newsletter i put together for where i do volunteer work.

Articles where supposed to be given to me a week ago so i have a chance to edit them which i do at home n
ot allowing me to write anything here. Putting the newsletter together i used to be able to do mainly at home and i had time to put things together, now i have to go in the office where i do volunteer work which means i need to find time to get there and sometimes when i have days i can be there the place is closed which is what happened last Friday.

There is now a committee for the newsletter to try to make it easier for me, which it dosent really do as others in the committee think that it is ok to give me the information the day that the newsletter is supposed to be finished which of course puts me back in time with some of them wondering why i havent finished it.

So yes im ranting and raving and yes i will be bringing this up at the next meeting cause instead of making things easier and teaching someone else how to do the newsletter its not happening at all.

Feed up With Lunch

I found this on the net the other day and thought it was pretty interesting.

It is about a women Mrs Q who one day forgets to take her lunch to school she works at and decides why not buy what the students eat each day at school, what she got was a Bagel Dog, as she says

"It was this massive amount of dough covering a hot dog, plus tater
tots and a fruit cup. And I thought, ‘This is it?’

When she looked at some of her students, most of whom rely on government-subsidised free lunches at school. The bagel dog that turned her stomach would be, for many the best meal of
their day.

She decided to write about the lunches on her blog Feed up With Lunch and take photographs of some of the lunches so people could see what sort of meals children where eating and maybe why there was a obesity problem in the area.

Pizza Pasta Salisbury steak

Some other meals included :
Chicken parmigna , garlic bread, broccoli, apple

Meatballs, broccoli, mixed fruit cup, whole wheat hot dog buns

Cheese sandwich, tater tots, apple, pretzels, milk

Some of these foods may not seem bad, but when you read the write up about them, then its a different matter
