Something i noticed, hair on children

I have some friends who have small children, both my friends children are boys one 5 the other 6 and as it is summer they run around without a shirt on to keep cool.

One thing i noticed was the hair on their backs, there seemed to be so much of it, you can see it glistening in the sun.

So it got me wondering are we born with a certain amount of hair follicles and have them for life, and well we do

It seems that a developing fetus has all of it's hair follicles formed by week 22.

There are 5 million follicles on the body.
One million of those are on the head, and 100,000 are on the scalp.

It is the largest number of follicles we will ever have - hair follicles are never added during life.

As we grow older and our body grows, and the density of the hair follicles on the skin decreases.

Who would have thought, isn't it strange what you find out about how the human body works.

Birds Chirping

I am a night owl so i often hear birds chirping as soon as the sun starts to appear and i wondered why they seemed to do this particular chirp which was pretty loud and different to the ones you hear during the day, so of course i had to search to find out and this is what i found.

There are a few explanations of why birds do this

  1. The modern scientific viewpoint, it is devoid of any romantic, religious or aesthetic aspects.

It states that the dawn chorus signifies the warning signals given by each bird (usually the male bird) as it announces the re-establishment of its territory for the purpose of courtship, nesting and food getting.

All of these are basic steps to breeding and the dawn chorus is just a way to warn other counterparts to keep away from their respective territories.

  2. The conventional opinion in the Middle Ages about the singing of birds was that the birds chirped early in the morning to praise their Creator, sweetly exalting their Lord for all the beauties he had adorned the entire world with.

Another standpoint stated that birds sang a welcome song for the sun, expressing their keenness for the sunrise, which symbolized food, warmth and protection.

Why Night Owls Are More Intelligent than Morning Larks

I am a night owl and im consider myself pretty intelligent and someone showed me this study that was done which you can see on Psychology Today

After reading it i thought about my own family, two people in my family where born with slight learning difficulties (they now lead an everyday life) and anyhow from memory they where able to go to sleep earlier than me. I remember i used to go to sleep around 11pm and wake up at 5.15am to get the first part of my journey to get to work. You would think i was tired but i dont really remember feeling tired.

It used to be a running joke in my family, i would walk down to the kitchen with my father sitting there and he would smile at me and ask me how i was and how i slept i would grunt back at him then he would laugh, i dont talk when i wake up and even now whatever time i wake up i dont like to talk, i need to get my brain into action hehehehe.

This is the last paragraph on the page which explains it the simplest
An analysis of a large representative sample of young Americans confirms this prediction. Net of a large number of social and demographic factors, more intelligent children grow up to be more nocturnal as adults than less intelligent children. Compared to their less intelligent counterparts, more intelligent individuals go to bed later on weeknights (when they have to get up at a certain time the next day) and on weekends (when they don’t), and they wake up later on weekdays (but not on weekends, for which the positive effect of childhood intelligence on adult nocturnally is not statistically significant). For example, those with a childhood IQ of less than 75 ("very dull") go to bed around 23:41 on weeknights in early adulthood, whereas those with a childhood IQ of over 125 ("very bright") go to bed around 00:29.

Mr Squiggle

Today at work i noticed a guy with a pen around his ear and teased him that he was trying to be like Mr Squiggle

One of the men in the office didnt know who Mr Squiggle was and it made me think what young children where missing out on these days. A show that you could see creativity without any badness in it at all, showing how drawing was a cool thing to do.

Mr Squiggle used to be on ABC Australia, he was a marionette with a pencil for a nose, who visited his friends from his home at 93 Crater Crescent on the Moon, flying in his pet rocket (named Rocket).

What he did was every episode he would create several pictures from "squiggles" sent in by children
from around the country. I used to think how clever he was as some of the squiggles that where sent in seemed pretty hard to make a picture from but he did each time.

Mr. Squiggle was created by Norman Hetherington, and the character first appeared on the Children's TV Club on ABC TV, but was spun-off into his own programme which first aired on 1 July 1959. Hetherington voiced all the show's puppets, while his wife Margaret wrote the scripts. The last episode went to air just over 40 years later on 9 July 1999.

Mr. Squiggle was always helped by a human female assistant in all of the show's incarnations; they included Miss Gina (Gina Curtis), Miss Pat (Pat Lovell), Miss Jane (Jane Fennell), and later series featured Roxanne (Roxanne Kimmorley) and Rebecca (Rebecca Hetherington, Hetherington's daughter).

At the start the show used to run for 30 minutes but in the 90's the show went to five minutes

The characters where Mr Squiggle, Rocket, Blackboard, Bill the Steamshovel and Gus the Snail

It seems the picture would be drawn upside down (Hetherington manipulated the puppet from above by viewing the drawing upside down), and then Mr. Squiggle would gleefully declare: "Upside down! Upside down!" – asking his assistant to turn the picture the right way up and reveal the completed drawing.

Aww memories, when to me time was innocent still.

Bi-Centenary of Liverpool NSW

Liverpool NSW is celebrating its Bi-Centenary today November 7 2010. It is the area i lived in as a child, and i have seen the area change from a Town to a City. To when a car sales yard used to be in the middle of Liverpool where there now being a Shopping Centre.

Part of the Bus Depot at the station being used as a car park it being dirt and foundations of a building (i was told it used to be the Horse Smithy)

Some History about The City of Liverpool

On November 7, 1810 Governor Lachlan Macquarie founded Liverpool.

Liverpool is named in honour of the Earl of Liverpool, then Secretary of State for the Colonies.

Liverpool is Australia's fourth oldest town behind Sydney, Parramatta and Hobart.

Unlike these cities, Liverpool was the first free planned settlement of Australia.

After planning the Town Square, Macquarie appointed emancipated architect Francis Greenway to design a church. In 1818 he laid the foundation stone and named the church St Lukes, the church still being used today.

In 1822 the foundations were commenced for Liverpool Hospital (now Liverpool College of TAFE.) Liverpool was chosen as the site of a major hospital because of its ‘pure air and sweet water'.

The coming of the railway, opened in September 1856 and the electric telegraph in 1858, provided speedy, safe transport and communication and began the transformation of Liverpool into a major regional city.

In 1828 Liverpool was one of the first country areas to open a Post Office. The first postmaster was Mr Meredith.

Sydney Eye Hospital

Sydney Eye Hospital marked its 199th birthday on 30 October 2010. The Hospital was once known as the Rum Hospital as the consortium of businessmen expected to recoup the cost of the building and gain considerable profits with the selling of Rum.

The Hospital comprised three main buildings fronting Macquarie Street.

The hospital now stands in the Central Pavilion.

The original North Wing is now Parliament House. The South Wing became the Colonial Mint and in turn, the Mint Museum.

In 1788 when the first of the 736 convicts who survived the voyage to Australia many arrived suffering from dysentery, smallpox, scurvy, and typhoid.
Knowing a hospital would have to be made Governor Phillip and Surgeon-G
eneral John White established a tent hospital to care for the worst cases.

A portable hospital was prefabricated in England from wood and copper which arrived in Sydney with the Second Fleet in 1790.

Upon Governor Macquarie’s arrival he discovered that the Sydney Cove's hospital was an affair of tents and temporary buildings.
Macquarie set aside land on the western edge of the Government Domain for a new hospital and created a new road Macquarie Street.

With the British Government refusing to provide funds to build the hospital Macquarie entered into a contract with a consortium of businessmen - Garnham Blaxcell, Alexander Riley and, later, D'Arcy Wentworth.

They were to receive convict labour and supplies and a monopoly on rum imports from which they expected to recoup the cost of the building and gain considerable profits. The contract allowed them to import 45,000 (later increased to 60,000) gallons of rum to sell to colonists and was signed on 6 November 1810.

My Car in an accident

Today while driving my car out of the driveway i noticed the young guy across the road was about to get in his car and thinking he would have seen me reversing i started to reverse the car out.

Im pretty careful as i reverse out onto the street in case there are any children walking along or any cars.

So as i am about to get onto the road the young guy starts to reverse his car and dosent look, i see the car is going pretty fast and thinking i should move my car forward he hits my car before i had a chance to move.

My reaction was oh ok he has hit my car.

I got out of the car and all that has happened is that i have a small ding in the back panel.

I think he was in shock and upset what he has done, and i have been trying to tell him that it is ok.

Next door to me my neighbour has a friend and he had a look at the car and works as a panel beater so we have arranged for the car to be taken there to be checked and the car will be fixed there.

Im not sure why im not worried about it but it but as i have told his family it is a car, no-one has been hurt and the car is still drivable, as i dont want to take the car to where the panel beater is, i have asked that on of his family do it for me.

Im waiting to see if i go into shock but so far nothing has happened to me. I feel more sorry for the young guy as i think it has affected him more than it has me.

A Dog

On Saturday one of my neighbours children came over as there was a dog in her front yard that looked it was crying and it wouldn't move.

So i went over and saw a dog there and also some other children who didn't live there but said they knew where the dog belonged.

We tried to get the dog to move which it wouldn't, so i found some rope and made a slipknot and placed it around the dogs neck, we followed the children who said they knew the dogs home and the dog happily walked along.

Getting to where the children said the dog lived i got told no it belonged next door, so i went to walk next door, this man who was drunk then came running out the door yelling at me to take the rope away from the dogs neck, i told him how the rope was not hurting him and how it was loose, i went on to tell him how the dog was found at my friends house around children, yelling at me he told me how the dog wouldn't hurt children and how he let the dog walk around all the time, I started to yell at him and told him how it was dangerous for the dog to walk around, he stopped yelling at me by then, walking away i said to him that i hoped that one day the dog didn't get run over.

I felt sorry for the dog though as when the man took the rope from the dogs neck, the man went to hit him, the dogs tail went between its legs and started to cower.

Changed Email Address's

For many years i have used a certain email company as my main email, when i sign up for things i used that email address.

Then 2 months ago i started to receive around 100-150 junk mails per day, i contacted the email company asking how i could get rid of them, their suggestion add them to my folder of people i don't want to hear from. It worked for a day or so and then one day i logged in to find overnight i had 206 emails from this company.

Writing to them again for the 3rd time i told them how i still had the problem and what they suggested wasn't working, five days later i get a response the company taking some of the responsibility and asked for me to send a copy of the email with my email address and they would fix my problem. Mind you this is two weeks later.

So i send them a copy of the email and my email address to receive a reply another 4 days later saying how they needed my email address, they couldn't find it even though i had written it in the email.

My question to this email company was, why cant they be like other email address's that if you put something in Junk Folder it knows straight away to not send it to your inbox again. Is it hard to have your email address do that, and why was it left to me to fix the problem when i am using their email?

Since then i have changed email address's...........having a few problems as this blog is under my old email address and even though i have changed the email address for here, blogger writes that they cannot change the email the account was first made with, so when i want to write on here i need to sign in with my old email account which i don't use anymore grrrrrrrr

Being a human guinea pug

Imagine being a human guinea pig, to me it sounds like it wouldnt be much fun but some people where treated very badly some giving themselves to be tested on and others not.

I found this information on the SBS television website.

In the 1930s, Japan’s notorious Unit 731 carried out brutal experiments on the population of recently-invaded Manchuria. Whole villages and towns were deliberately infected with plague, and sufferers were dissected alive.
Prisoners of war were shot and operated on without anaesthetic so army doctors could practise field surgery. In World War II Germany, concentration camp doctors like Josef Mengele selected twins and Romany prisoners for obscure medical experiments, and killed enemy prisoners in low temperature or high altitude tests, supposedly to protect their own sailors and airmen.

After the war, many Nazi 'Doctors of Death' were brought to justice.

But in Japan the head of Unit 731 cut a deal with US intelligence; the Americans knew they could never replicate biological data gained through experiments on humans.

It was the start of a chemical arms race, reaching its peak in the 1960s and '70s with LSD as the mind-control secret weapon of both sides, intended to cripple the enemy without firing a shot. The US showed drugs experiments in army-sponsored TV documentaries.
The film has a moving and shocking interview with a Japanese doctor who operated on anaesthetised prisoners.
A captured US pilot is seen making an apparently false confession in Korea. A Czech military chemist explains how chemical weapons are deployed, and a victim of a drug-fuelled interrogation describes the experience.

At Mcgill University, trials were held to determine how long a person could exist without some sensory stimuli. Imagine having all your senses taken away from you, it is like some people out there have a sick mind and dont care about humans at all, and as long as they dont get hurt they dont care.

Some CIA tests ended fatally. LSD was used as an interrogation drug by the US military, Experiments were conducted on volunteers, but often subjects received drugs without their knowledge. Many experiments ended fatally. In addition to LSD, a number of other substances were used in the experiments, including panic or chaos-producing torture drugs, truth drugs and trusting drugs (known today as ecstasy)

The atomic bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki led the Americans to gather data for nuclear war. As a result, a separate research organisation was founded. American doctors examined the Japanese victims, but offered no assistance. Their findings were subject to confidentiality.

In the US, during the Vietnam War, there was an agreement between the Seventh-Day Adventist church and the armed forced.Members of the church could refuse military service if they became subjects of experiments. They were, for example infected with anthrax in order to improve treatments for it. The US armed forces claim these experiments were ethically sound because the victims consented.

I live in Australia and even though i have written about what America has done, maybe the same was done in Australia, i dont want people thinking i am saying that America is bad, there are bad people in each country.

Home Alone

Almost everyone has heard of the movie Home Alone, which had Macaulay Culkin act as the main character Kevin McCallister, but what if it happened in real life?

Well it seems that it being home alone was how David Cohen spent his life.

From the age of 12 David lived in a Luxury flat owned by his wealthy parents. It seems that one day his mother said she would be going to Israel for a business purpose and would be back one month later, but his mother returned 3 years later.

For the first three weeks after she left, David had his father in the flat with him, but after awhile his father started behaving oddly. One night, he took David out to a restaurant and told him needed to go to Manchester on business for a few days.

He explained why I couldn't go with him. As David had just won a scholarship to one of London's top schools, St Paul's, and couldn't jeopardise my studies.

When David asked 'Who is going to stay with me?'. 'I've never been alone for a night before.'
His father just smiled and said the porter would look out for me. Then he gave him two £5 notes, made him promise not to write to his mother and walked him to the bus stop. His father had left David to live with his mistress leaving the 12 year old to learn how to look after himself with no idea how to shop, cook, clean or make sure he was decently turned out for school.

David saw his mother a few times during the years she was away. She came back briefly for his bar mitzvah. His father didn't disappear entirely. They spoke often on the phone and every Friday had dinner in a restaurant before going their separate ways.

Im not sure how i would have handled being left to live alone at the age of 12, sure i would have know how to do basic stuff like cook, but for the rest i would have been lost

Knitting Hats

I like being creative and for awhile i have had nothing to do other than create through the computer, but i still felt that there was something missing.

I was talking to a friend who suggested that i knit hats and i can then donate them to be sold, so now i have started knitting hats using 4 needles so that the hat has no join.

So far i have knitted two hats and am onto my 3rd, the first one i donated to a charity store for it to be sold, then i asked a bunch of my friends if anyone wanted a hat made, so far i have made one for one friend and he wants another made so he can wash one and have one ready to wear

I haven't knitted with 4 needles for awhile so am remembering as i go how to do it, i would use circular needles but i cant find any big enough for the looseness i need to make and i cant remember how to knit using circular needles, i suppose i just need practice on them

Why do people hit children?

Yesterday i saw a friend who i haven't seen for awhile, catching up on her family how her youngest daughter had a baby last month and how her oldest daughter got out of a bad relationship last week.

It seems that the oldest daughter started to have a relationship with her brother in law (youngest daughters boyfriends brother) and that he is abusive and my friend was surprised that the daughter stayed in the relationship.

The eldest daughter has a son T aged 11 and a daughter H aged 6.

My friend didn't get to see these two grandchildren last Christmas and she wondered why. My friend told me how one day her granddaughter was at her house with some other family and while playing the other saw some bruises near her thighs and other parts of her body.

My friend not liking this went to talk to her eldest daughter to find out what had happened, it seems that just before the last Christmas H talked back to her mother and the boyfriend grabbed the child slammed her head into the bed quite a few times and hit her for a long time, at other times if he was angry he would get H and start hitting her for no reason.

To me people who hit children are cowardly.........the best treatment for any person who does that should be that they have to stand there tied up while someone bashes them for 10 minutes at a time, every week for a month and see how they like it...

Some History about Australia

Some history about Sydney Australia

The history of Australia began when The First Fleet, commissioned by Thomas Townshend, Baron Sydney, set sail for Botany Bay on May 13, 1787. Led by Captain Arthur Phillip

They arrived at Botany Bay on the 18th of January, where upon anchoring, it was discovered there was no fresh water locally available. When the rest of the fleet arrived early on the 19th, much to Phillip’s surprise, it was decided to go further north, to Port Jackson (now known as Sydney Harbour).

A formal flag raising ceremony was held by Arthur Phillip on the shore to proclaim the Colony of New South Wales, in the name of the King of England on the 26th of January, 1788. This day is now celebrated as Australia Day.

Captain Arthur Phillip was later to name the cove they landed at Sydney Cove, in honor of Thomas Townshend, Baron Sydney (1733-1800), the minister responsible for the Colony, with later usage dropping the word ’Cove’.

The convicts and soldiers put tents to live in around the harbour, which is now called The Rocks, it is a historical turned shopping area, on the opposite side Captain Arthur Philip put his tent up which is close to where The Sydney Opera House is now,

There is Cadmans Cottage which was built in 1816 as barracks for the crew of the governer's boats and Fort Dennison which was built around 1855 to protect Sydney during the Crimean War

The Queen Victoria Building (known as the Q.V.B) which was built in 1898 as an area to buy food supplies, in the building is a Wishing Well with a statue of Queen Victoria that was given to Sydney from The people of Ireland. The Queen Victoria Building was re-furbished in 1985 and is now a major shopping and office area

Dont get Males at times

There has been this guy on Facebook i have been talking too, he is about 20 years younger than me and he has always been asking me personal questions and most of them i answer with
... he doesn't need to know..

He then would come back with whats the big deal and i would answer "well why do you need to know, why is it a big deal for you to know"......he wouldn't like that and would stop talking to me which was fine by me.

He said something about coming to Sydney and did i want to meet and i said yeah sure why not, and then he said so will i get lucky and i said no why would he think that i don't know you...

The other day on Facebook i noticed how he has written that his ex-girlfriend who he has a child to is scarred to be around him cause of his temper and I'm thinking yeah i can see it by how he chats to me.

Today was the last straw, i was chatting with him and he was talking about sex and i was joking around saying stuff back to him and then he said something and i asked if he was turned on...his reply yes he was.......he next comment was would i like a picture of his penis so i could see it erect i said no thanks I'm not interested.

Later on after dinner i came back to a message saying "WB Big Tits" , i thought it a little rude and as i was sleepy i wrote back hmm

His comment back to me was along the lines of ...... i should lighten up I'm no fun ....and that I'm depressing to talk too....

This bothered me for a few minutes till i then remembered that i probably wasn't chatting with him how he wanted me to chat to him.....

I do suffer from depression, but i take medication for it which means i am very rarely depressed, but because of this and what he said it did hit me.

Lucky i am older and know that people play games and blame others instead of themselves, but why do people have to go around and try to make others feel bad when they are the ones that are bad?

Nephew came over

Last week my nephew S came over to help me with something, as two people use the driveway and the other tenants car was still there my nephew decided to park in the back yard.

The backyard has a slab of cement that should be able to park 2 cars on it, but the tenant below has been putting stuff on one side of it so my nephew couldnt park there.

Later in the day my nephew left to go and i could hear him reving his engine and the car was still there, he comes up and tells me that his car is bogged in the backyard, asks if he can borrow my car to get someone to help him, so i give him the keys to my car and off he drive.

He turn back up 30 minutes later with a friend and i stayed inside to let him work it out.

After 20 minutes the car had still not moved so i went downstairs to see what the problem was, the car had gone further into the ground with the skirt of the car almost to the ground.

Suggesting a few things of how he could try to get it out it still wasent working to well as we couldnt get the car to grip onto the wood cause we didnt have enough strength pushing it. I went to my neighbour next door and one of the men that live there came over to help.

Sizing up the problem we worked out that he needed wood and to dig further around one of the front tires so we could get the wood under better.

A little while later and a few more pieces of wood we did get the car out.

The only problem the wood that we used belonged to the tenant who lives downstairs, the wood was slats for a bed, but it has sat there since he moved close to a year ago.

The next day, the things that where placed on the slab of cement where i should be able to park my car had been moved and the slats for the bed had also been moved.

I was waiting to hear something from the tenant downstairs about using the wood, but he hasent said a word.

Monet

Loving landscape paintings Monet is one of my favourite painters..

One of my favourite paintings he did was of a Cathedral at Rouen, it is said that he witnessed painters copying from the old masters. Having brought his paints and other tools with him, he would instead go and sit by a window and paint what he saw.

With the Cathedral Monet painted it many times each time seeing it at different seasons of the year summer, winter and spring and painted it how the light showed at that time

You can see below how light changes how you see things..

Since having a cold

Since having a cold i have found out what i find some interesting things.

1. the reason you get a sore throat is because when you get the cold bacteria is made and it builds up in your throat

2. i had a ticklish throat when i had my cold... the one treatment i found that worked on me was to put salt and cold water in a glass and gargle it, after one treatment it worked great on me.

3. if you cough up phlegm and it is slightly yellow you have a infection and you need to get medication

4. the reason you get blocked ears, is because mucus builds up in the nasal passageway... some simple ways which are supposed to work are....yawn or open your mouth wide and swallow hard.
My ears are still blocked after a 4 weeks so im going to try one more idea to see if that works which is to Take warm water mixed with common salt, and place a small quantity on your palm. Slowly inhale this water so that it goes into your nostril and then breathe through your mouth or better still hold your breath.

Turn your head to the side where it is blocked. Do this a few times.
This is the site i got the information about unblocking your ears Yoga Health Benefits

.
Edit: well i tried the salt water idea and well it seems to work, it is the first time for weeks that i have been even able to pop my ear when blowing my nose.

Cold wont leave me alone

Today i went to the doctor again as my cold is not leaving me alone, this is the third week ive had it.
The most annoying part i find is that my ears are blocked, people talk to me and i tell them i cant hear to well and they talk up for a minute and then they start to talk normally again and you look at them and say "wanna repeat that, i cant hear you" they are starting to unblock but its a little weird being able to hear yourself eat.

The one funny thing is my new doctor has never seen
Lingual Tonsils, which just means the tonsil tissue is in my tounge. Today she said to me happily that i am the first person she has ever seen who has lingual tonsils and sure she has studied it, but to be able to see it is something different, ive had them since i was 12 im now 46 so of course they are normal for me and i have heard of other people who have had it.

Ive had to choose a new doctor as my old doctor was in a bad car accident and has broken his back, i heard today that he is now
quadriplegic. I hope he is not to much pain mentally and hope that him and his family are handling it ok.

Trivia

I was outside having a smoke the other day and thinking back when i was told the why you couldnt smoke while you are cooking, i always thought it would be the ash from the smoke, but the real reason is the salvia on the end of the smoke each time you put the smoke in and out of your mouth.

So i thought i might find some more trivia to add here

Your stomach has to produce a new layer of mucus every two weeks otherwise it will digest itself.

The phrase "sleep tight" derives from the fact that early mattresses were filled with straw and held up with rope stretched across the bedframe. A tight sleep was a comfortable sleep.

The botanical name of the chocolate plant is Theobramba cacao, which means "Food of the Gods.
There is no such thing as a banana tree. Bananas grow on plants.

The human body has enough fat to produce 7 bars of soap.

Your stomach cells secrete hydrochloric acid, a corrosive compound used to treat metals in the industrial world. It can pickle steel, but mucous lining the stomach wall keeps this poisonous liquid safely in the digestive system.

Getting a cold

I went to a friends place of Wednesday she has 5 children of different ages, one of them has a learning difficulty as well as being deaf, she also had a cold...
She has this thing of when i go over that she likes to play and sit on my knee, she is 15 and well normally i dont have a problem with this, but i think she has given me a cold

Today is Friday, my throat is slightly sore, i can feel something at the back of my nose and i seem to forget things, also my voice is going deeper.

As i female i have a pretty deep voice that guys seem to like ehhh its a voice, but i can hear my voice changing.

I rarely get sick and the last time i had a cold was about 3 years ago, im hoping that my body fights it and that it dosent get too bad as i really hate getting sick, i think i might be one of the worse people to be around when im ill.

Cross your fingers for me that it goes away...

Its winter here so i thought i would make myself some Minestrone Soup for dinner, i have made that much so i will be eating it for the rest of the week for dinner almost and have placed some in the freezer so i can eat at a later date

Anyhow this is the recipe i go a little by, how i change it is a buy a soup mix pack which has usually around 5 carrots, onions, some celery, parsley, parsnip and turnip...but when i make it i add more vegetables i might have at home like today i had sweet potato so added that as well.

When i was first making it i was talking to a lady who works in the vegetable shop and she said to add whatever vegetable you have laying around the house as it is like a garbage soup for left over vegetables you may have in your house.

I start with water in half way up a 4 litre pot add 2 big beef cubes then add all the vegetables i have and let that cook for about 20 mins then add a packet of pre-sliced bacon the tin of tomatos and the red kidney beans, then about 20 mins before you want to eat it i add the pasta and then after the pasta is cooked you have Minestrone soup

Minestrone Soup

Ingredients (serves 4)
• 3 bacon rashers, rind removed, roughly chopped
• 2 carrots, peeled, chopped
• 2 celery sticks, chopped
• 1 desiree potato, peeled, chopped
• 2 garlic cloves, crushed
• 1L (4 cups) beef stock
• 1 300g can red kidney beans, rinsed, drained
• 1 425g can rich and thick finely chopped tomatoes

• 40g (1/2 cup) 3-minute rollini pasta
• Salt & freshly ground black pepper
• 1/3 cup chopped fresh continental parsley
Method
1. Place the bacon, carrots, celery, potato and garlic in a large saucepan and stir to combine. Cook over high heat, uncovered, stirring often, for 5 minutes.
2. Add the beef stock, red kidney beans and tomatoes to the pan, cover and bring to the boil. Reduce heat to medium-low. Simmer, covered, stirring occasionally, for 30 minutes or until the vegetables are tender. (To freeze the soup, see note).
3. Increase heat to high. Add pasta and cook, uncovered, stirring occasionally, for 3 minutes or until pasta is al dente. Season with salt and pepper. Ladle into serving bowls and sprinkle with parsley. Serve immediately.

Lending the Laptop

Ive always had two computers in my house in case one breaks, i have the other to get on..

I had always wanted a laptop cause i thought they looked cool and i kept thinking all the things i could do on it, so after the last computer died i bought this laptop, i used it for 6 months and then it just sat there gathering dust.

A friend of mine who i got into using facebook rang me on Sunday to ask if i could look after some of her games for her and i suggested she could use my laptop till she got her computer fixed, my friend dosent know to much about computers and well i dont know alot but i know enough to get myself out of trouble.

After getting off the phone to her i thought hmm i better upgrade what needs to be upgraded, cause the laptop hasent been used for awhile there was no power left in it so i had to start it back up.........to cut things short here i was thinking hmm it will probably take 2 hours at the most to update the laptop but no it took more like 4 hours.
MSN wouldnt work and after reading the errors it seemed i had another version in there so i had to get rid of that and all the updates from windows sheesh there was 56 of them.

So now my friend has my laptop and it is all working fine, and i am glad i decided to check what needed to be updated before i gave it to her or she would have had another non-working computer.

Chicken Biryani

About a year ago i went somewhere and they where cooking a food called Chicken Biryani, the way they where cooking it seemed so complecated and even though i loved it and found a few recipes on the net for it i never made it.

The other day i was looking at some recipes and i found one called Cheat's Chicken Biryani, i made it last night and it was so yummy.

I have some to give to a friend of mine, and i am going to give some to a neighbour for her to try, if she likes it she will make it for her family

Anyhow this is the recipe

Ingredients:
1½ cups basmati rice
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 onion, finely sliced
4 chicken breasts (about 600g), cut into 2cm cubes
540g jar of mild korma simmer sauce (I used Pataks)
¼ cup currants or sultanas
¼ cup slivered almonds, toasted
¼ cup roughly chopped coriander leaves (optional)
Pappadums (gluten-free), to serve

Method:
Boil or steam the rice until cooked, drain and set aside.

Heat the oil in a large frypan over medium heat; add the onion and cook for 2-3 minutes or until softened.

Add the chicken and cook for about 3 minutes until golden brown on all sides.

Pour in the korma sauce and currants, mix well, then reduce heat to very low and simmer for 15 minutes.

Stir in the rice and heat through.

Transfer to a large serving dish and sprinkle with almonds and coriander leaves (if using).

Place in the middle of the table with the pappadums and let everyone help themselves.

I didnt use the pappadums using lebanese bread instead

I got the recipe from this great site for childrens food Kidspot.com.au
Go check it out you might find something on there that you will like

Couldnt move my car

Yesterday i woke and as it was Sunday i played around on the computer for a little bit, had a shower and went outside to go and buy the one newspaper i buy one newspaper per week...

What should happen, there is a car in the driveway..........i cant get me car out grrrrr

I knocked on the door of the person who lives below me and got no response, his mother lives next door, so i went to her place and she wasent home as well.

So i went to another neighbours and asked if she had any phone numbers so could get the car moved, my friend rang the guys mother who said she would be back soon.

The mother returned and she rang her son who didnt answer the phone, but her daughter did who was with the son, after listening in a bit, i heard well its her fault...........im thinking WTF how is it my fault. I ask the mother what was said and she told me the daughter said "why does she need to go out".

It seems they where at Bankstown and said they would return in an hour, which i didnt agree with and it seems the mother didnt either

The mother then asked me what i needed to do and offered me her car to drive, so of i went and got my newspaper and something to eat.

A few minutes after i got home the people got home and moved the car, i said to the daughter how her mum let me use the car so i was able to get what i wanted.

I then turned around to the person who's car it was and said to her to not park in the driveway, she mouthed something back at me, i then turned around and said "Hello its a driveway, a driveway you do know what one of them is dont you".........

One of her friends that was with her said hey dont pick on her she had to go see someone in hospital, i turned around and said hey there is a front yard she can park there, there is the street she can park there,...............the guy carried on for a bit till i told him that it was not the first time she had parked her car there that she parks her car there at night, and it is damn lucky i dont need to go out............

I then walked away and went over to my friends house for awhile.

From now on, i will be parking my car out on the front lawn, the guy downstairs will probably say something asking me to not park there, but i dont care anymore.......i am so sick of his friends parking wherever they want too.

Its my yard as well, and i think i have been nice long enough, time to do what i want to do.

Poem i wrote a few weeks ago

Im gonna be busy the next week or so putting together the usual newsletter i do, plus other things people want done, so ive put in this poem as i havent written anything in this blog lately
The stars that twinkle in the sky
show the voices of passing by
a rapture shown juicy and bright
showing upwards
with speed of light
journeys end
or seldom do
and show a future
all bright and blue

Annoyed with a person

Where i work during the day there are alot of Volunteer workers, there are more Volunteers than workers and if it wasent for the Volunteers the place wouldnt run as it does. There has been 4 managers since ive been there and the Volunteers have been able to help the new Manager know how the place works.

The new manager has decided to give food tickets for the volunters so they can get something nice and healthy to eat at a place called New Horizons Cafe which helps people who are mentally a little slow, they learn how to work in a kitchen are given a certificate after 6 months training in hopes they can get a job somewhere else or stay working there.

This one person today i felt so angry with him as his first comment was, why are the volunters getting food vouchers, its a waste of money and the money should go towards helping people. I told him how the Cafe is run , he then carried on a bit more with it saying how the Australian Government wastes money, how is the Cafe a waste of money as it is helping people.

His next comment about the volunter's not getting the vouvhers was that the volunters could buy their own food, the people who do volunter work there are on pensions and to buy something healthy to eat is very expensive, and that by giving the person the voucher to buy healthy food it is helping the government in hopes people will enjoy to eat healthy food and in the long run that will help the health system and save money, he didnt like this comment either.

He then told me he is on a pension as he has a bad back, and i said how maybe a few days a week he could work, his comment was why should i work and as he is 48 he should be allowed to enjoy the rest of his life and how he could die tomorrow. I turned around and said yes and i could die tomorrow as well, but i dont sit around doing nothing, he continued on about his bad back which by this time i wanted to slap him so badly, and if his back is so bad how come he has been around all day doing nothing, he could be sitting somewhere doing some work he just glared at me and someone else was trying to get him not annoyed at this stage by joking with him.

But gawd i really hate people like that, here he is saying we should do something for the youth.

To me if you want to do something for the youth show that it is good to work and what you can get when you work, not live like this jerk was..

Ok ive had my rant now but i still wanna slap him so hard

Spinach Lasanga

I made Spinach Lasanga, cause i love eating spinach.

I found a recipe on the net and thought it sounded pretty easy to make and as i wouldnt have much time when i got home today i made the white sauce and the spinach filling yesterday.
So today i just had to put it all together and bake it.

It worked out great and it tasted ok, but i found it a little bland, which as i was making it im thinking hmm bland.

Usually when i make food i make loads of it and then i put it in the freezer to eat another day, but not today, i have put aside enough so that i could have some for tomorrow night and not have to cook, but i dont really want the rest of it.

My friends are are gonna love me as i have put some in containers and im going to give them the Lasanga tomorrow.

No pictures as i didnt think about it writing about it till now heheh

Kuta Beach Boys

I was reading on the net the other day about how some Kuta beach boys where rounded up and taken to by the Bali Police..

I dont see what the big problem is with the men talking to the women on the beach. Sure i know there is more to it than that, but if it was women would there be such a problem.

What about the documentary that was done a few years ago called My Boyfriend the Sex Tourist.
Men went there for a holiday and have a girlfriend experience for however long they where there, in other words they got to choose a prostitute from a line up of girls that showed up when the tourist got there.

What are the men doing any different, the men are offering their companionship if it turns into sex well it does, but the women arent going there and making all the men line up and choosing one of them, it is up to the man if he chooses to and the women if she chooses too.

What im talking about is The documentary, "Cowboys in Paradise" by Singapore-based writer and director Amit Virmani.

Officials are saying that the candid interviews with the local men who flirt with and seduce foreign tourists has severely tarnished the resort island's image.
"All they did was speak honestly about their lives. No one should be harmed for that," he said.

The film maker said "I wanted to understand the men behind the cowboy myth. People never got past looking at them as gigolos. That's so one dimensional. I wanted to know why they are so appealing to women? What are their relationships like?... I wanted to humanise them.

An American woman tourist interviewed said the beach boys just "love to have fun".

"The women that come... what they're feeling is that these people feel safe to them and they love to have fun. They'll get out and sing and dance and joke and they'll include you in everything," she said.

So what are these men doing wrong, would they have been treated differently if they where women?

Long Weekend (ANZAC Day)

Its been a long weekend this week, the reason is ANZAC day which was on 25 April

ANZAC stands for Australian and New Zealand Army Corps

It started as a day to honour members of the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps who fought at Gallipoli in Turkey during World War I.

It now more broadly commemorates all those who died and served in military operations for their countries. Anzac Day is also observed in the Cook Islands, Niue, Samoa and Tonga.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old;
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.

Poems

I used to have no problem in writing poems, and then for some reason they dried up and i couldnt write anything, then last week i started to write again.

Here is one i did last night

This can mean a few things, but people who know me what this is about....

The men they clamour
To here me talk
Pay for their minutes
and then they walk
Its over and done with
Till next week
When they come back again
To try to reach that same peak

Baking Bread

On Friday night i wanted to make my own Pizza, but i was being really lazy and didnt want to make my own base if it wasent going to turn out and taste all yummy.......

So instead i made bread, i cheated in that it was a packaged mix you buy that you can use in a electric bread maker (i dont own one) the flavour was Soy and Linseed, but i thought i would mix it up a little by added Bacon and Cheese,

So after the first rise i cut the bread into 8 pieces, mixed the pre-cooked bacon and the grated cheese to the sides, then added it to a baking dish and after letting is rise again

I cooked it....it was very yummy.......i gave some to my neighbours as i cant eat a whole loaf of bread

But ehh what you think dosent it look yummo

World of Warcraft (WoW)

I love to play World of Warcraft as my About me says

Found this that shows how many people play World of Warcraft and the percentage per continent it seems that 48% of players are Asian

I do notice that there are alot of Asians who play and the two guilds i am in are both Asian i am the only Aussie in the guild and usually i am the only female , i find Asian people really nice, polite helpful and are really sweet people.

When i first started to play World of Warcraft i was in an Aussie guild and it was mainly all guys, i got sick of it after awhile as i found the guild really blockey and at times sexist comments where said, so i left them and got into my first Asian guild, was a big difference straight away i was treated as a equal and no more sexist remarks or sex jokes

Anyhow if you look at
unrealitymag.com its shows stats of who play, how many computers are needed for the game to play and other information its really an eye opener...
